Skycity to Start Adelaide Casino Expansion in June

The South Australian Government has given the Skycity Entertainment Group the go-ahead to begin their AU$330 million-dollar expansion of Adelaide Casino. The expansion, which is set to start in June 2018 after a two-year delay, will 1 800 new jobs of which 800 will be permanent.

South Australia Premier, Steven Marshall, stated that he expects the new development project will help in growing the state’s economy by attracting both local and international visitors. This is in addition to the venue’s new status as a conference centre.

Adelaide Casino Upgrade Details

The proposed upgrade is set to add several new facilities to the ageing facility. This includes a hotel with over 100 available rooms, new gaming areas, a rooftop bar, restaurants and a day spa. In addition to the upgrades, Skycity Entertainment has also stated that the casino will have programs to prevent problem gamblers from accessing gaming facilities. The group’s assurances come amid South Australian Government concerns that the new development will increase this controversial issue in the area.

Melbourne-based construction firm, Hansen Yuncken bid to oversee the casino’s development, after a tender process. The firm has a good history with the state, having previously worked on a few facilities at the University of South Australia, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and even the initial development of the casino.

Adelaide Casino to Increase SA Tourism

The focus areas of the upgrade really seem to suggest that the Government of South Australia are focused on increasing state tourism. With the state already known for its fabulous annual arts and wine festivals, the new and improved casino will only provide potential visitors with another reason to view the area when it is finished in 2020.
