Microgaming Announces High Profile Pokies

February 13, 2017

Microgaming has announced three high profile online pokies to be released later this year. This was done at the ICE expo, which is the leading annual event for the online gaming industry. Microgaming is a popular software provider to Australian online casinos such as 32Red, Casino Mate and Royal Vegas.

Microgaming has announced a sequel to the immensely popular online pokie Castle Builder. You may recall that Castle Builder was nominated for EGR’s Game of the Year award in 2013. It integrates online pokie play with arcade gaming. Castle Builder II will take the concept to a much higher level. It is set in a fictional ancient world, much like Game of Thrones. To start with, you have to select from three player avatars. Each character has a different background story and offers a different set of features. You will unlock higher levels as you build different castles by collecting materials from different kingdoms. In the online pokie there are 15 kingdoms to explore, 75 castles to build and more than 300 characters to interact with. The arcade game concept comes to its own through a comprehensive achievement and cup challenges system where players win trophies and can continuously improve their avatars skill level.

The second announcement reveals a new branded online pokie based on the classic The Phantom of the Opera. This will be developed under license from The Really Useful Group, which owns the copyright to the 2004 movie version of The Phantom of the Opera. This was an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical. The movie grossed over $154 million worldwide. The Phantom of the Opera branded online pokie will feature the main characters and original footage from the film. Also included will be the iconic numbers “The Phantom of the Opera”, “The Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You”. There will be a considerable wait for this pokie as it is due only in the third quarter of the year. David Reynolds, Games Publisher at Microgaming, said, “… this game will be a true celebration of the world’s biggest opera, balancing a healthy mix of base game features with a feature-packed free spins round.”

Microgaming had announced Jurassic World last year, after signing a licensing agreement with Universal Brand Development. In this ICE expo, Microgaming reiterated that it was working on the branded pokie that will have some unique base game features, including randomly triggered events. One of the highlights of the movie was the colossal aquatic dinosaur Mosasaurus, which is expected to feature in the online pokie.
