While many Aussies believe that the typical online gamer is a youth below the age of 30, a study conducted by Nielsen Holdings has revealed that Australians over the age of 55 make up the largest numerical group of online gamers.

In the report published by Nielsen, it is stated that Australian senior citizens make up in excess of 25% of the 14.5 million people that play online games on some or other technological device each day. It is further stated that women make up most players in this demographic.

Which Titles Are Senior Gamers Playing?

Candy Crush, Pokémon Go and Words with Friends are stated to be some of the games most enjoyed by senior Australian players. With smartphones and tablets being the preferred manner in which to game amongst this demographic, it makes sense that these well-known mobile titles would be popular choices. These players are also said to be spending hours upon hours playing these games.

Generally, mobile titles do not cross many Australians’ minds when confronted with the idea of online gaming. Often, most default to thinking about more traditional online video game activities, such as playing Call of Duty on a PlayStation or Xbox. However, it is difficult to suggest that playing a game like Clash of Clans or Candy Crush on a mobile phone doesn’t fit the description of online gaming as it involves being connected to the internet and playing with other people.

Were Online Casino Gamers Included in the Study?

Currently, it is unclear as to whether Aussie gamblers playing their favourite casino games online were factored into the study. With many Australians logging into their favourite online gambling site each day, it would be interesting to see how these figures may affect the results of the study if they were not included.

Remember that Aussies can play their favourite casino titles, such as pokies, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and many more online. For the latest in online gaming news, keep it here at AustralianCasinoSites.com!
