Playtech's Wild Games Video Slot Review

December 27, 2013

Back in 2012 for the London Olympics, Playtech released the Wild Games video slot. This game has an Olympics theme, but it comes with a bit of a twist since it's based around a group of wild animals getting ready for the games. As you might expect from the title, this is a game that has a pretty high volatility, and that's rare for a game that doesn't have a particularly large top jackpot. The reason for the volatility is in the distribution of the paytable and the double bonus features that give you two different ways to take down massive prizes.

Wild Games uses 25 paylines with five reels. Coins range from $0.01 to $10 each, but unlike many of Playtech's slots, you can only bet a single coin on each payline. This has a somewhat hidden benefit of making it very clear what your bet sizing options are no matter which coin size you're using because you don't have to worry about coin multiples. Even without this flexible level of betting, you can still get in spins worth anywhere from $0.25 to $250 each, and this seems like it would cover just about every stake level that anyone could think of.

The Wild Games logo is wild in this game. Five of them get you a 3,000x payout if they're on the same payline, but there's a bit of a catch. Because the Wild Games logo shows up stacked, you're always going to get some other payouts in addition to your 3,000x top prize. In fact, you could very easily pick up multiple jackpots to get into the five-figure payout range if you line the wilds up right. This is the main contributing factor to the very high volatility of this game.

There are three events that you can trigger for a bonus feature. The 100 meter dash gives you a chance to pick up eight free spins with possible bonus goodies depending on where you place. For the freestyle swimming event, you'll have eight free spins with chances for more based on your performance. Finally, there is the balance beam game which is played hilariously by the hippo character. You'll be able to get big multipliers as high as 10x and as low as 6x in this bonus game, so it's definitely worth shooting for even though you might get fewer free spins overall.
