Microgaming's Hunky Heroes Video Slot Review

July 5, 2013

It can seem like a lot of slots are aimed at the male audience with themes based on beautiful women and top action films and television shows. However, a very large percentage of slot players are female, so it makes sense that Microgaming has put a lot of effort into giving them games that are just as targeted. With the Hunky Heroes video slot, they have put together a game based around "men in uniform" that is obviously marketed towards those who would like to see that sort of thing. This is a cool game overall with some atypical bonus features and a chance to even undress some of the Hunky Heroes of the game.

Hunky Heroes has a format that is similar to some of the earlier video slots. It uses nine paylines spread across five reels, and this makes it really easy to keep an eye on which symbols make up which paylines as the reels come to a stop. Coins range from $0.01 to $0.25 each, and you'll be able to bet up to 10 coins on each payline. This gives you plenty of chances to customize your bet size by adjusting the coin size and the number of coins per payline.

The Hunky Heroes symbol is the wild in this game, and five of them on an activated payline rewards you with a 4,000x jackpot. There are five different men that make up symbols including a fireman, a lifeguard, a pilot, a military officer and a police officer. These give payouts ranging from 2,000x to 700x for five of a kind combinations. As you can see, this is a game with a lot of substance even though the theme itself and concept for the game is a little silly overall.

The bonus feature is pretty hilarious. You can get a zipper symbol on the first reel, and if one of the men symbols lines up with it, then you get taken to a pick a box bonus feature where you're essentially undressing one of the men. There's also an appropriately-named "Pick a Package" bonus symbol where you can win free spins with multipliers worth up to 3x. You get this feature by getting three of the underwear symbol on an activated payline. This is a funny game with a couple of cool features that actually give you a lot of money on average, so it's not a bad game to play if you're comfortable with the theme.
